Here is another winter warmer, but where it comes from Soto Betawi is served any day (no winter in Indonesia obviously).
The original Soto Betawi uses beef offal, and they're ok, really :) In fact, they taste good! But here I only use the meat.
The soup is light coconut milk base, where coconut milk is added to the beef stock (from when you cook the beef until tender). This soup is best served with slices of tomatoes and lime, perkedel (potato cakes) or potato wedges, emping (crackers from gnetum gnemon nuts), boiled eggs, and of course sambal. Hmm...
