Ayam Kecap (Sweet Soy Chicken)


Ayam Kecap is one of my daughter's favorites. Of course because it has sweet taste in it!

The recipe I use is actually my mother's. My mother reinvented the standard sweet soy chicken by adding tomatoes, onions and spring onions. It adds sourness to the dish to balance the sweetness of the soy sauce, gives the dish more 'kick'.

Before blending the chicken pieces with the sauce I like to brown them with sauteed garlic and salt and pepper, instead of deep-frying them. I found this way the meat inside of has more taste and still moist.

Eat while hot, with steam rice. Hmm...
